The Bahamian festival of Junkanoo traditionally takes place over Christmas and New Year. Now, due to its popularity, Junkanoo Summer has been introduced throughout June and July. Blending art, culture and music, local and national entertainers join the Junkanoo groups to parade through the streets.

Our summer festival is not complete if you have experienced a Junkanoo Rush-Out. Whether it's the children's rush or the big parade, you will be treated to an incredible splash of colourful splendour in costuming and the rhythmic blending of the sounds. Jump in, enjoy the beat, feel the rush and have some fun.

This spectacular parade is the highlight of the Christmas holiday. The pulsating drums and whistles can be heard long before you see the lively groups performing. There are whistles, horns, and cowbells, with children, adult males and females vying for first place in the dance, costume drumming and belling categories. The crowds of spectators sing and dance on the sidelines and bleaches encouraging their favourite groups.

The parade starts at 1am and ends around 9am. While the members of the groups sleep, the fans wait for the winners to be announced on the local radio or tv stations. the winning group receives a cash prize.
